An exercise in futility

This thing has become less cathartic for me than when I first put the metaphorical pen to paper. In this day and age where public service employees are not allowed to voice opinions, or allowed but strongly cautioned not to say anything that could be considered controversial or offensive by anyone, I've learned that maintaining anonymity while truly releasing the stressors is pretty much impossible, especially so when working in a smaller community.

And so, for the most part, I've lost my "healthy" release and so far haven't found something to take it's place; at least, nothing as effective.

I'm not sure where to go from here.

I can't advise you as what you need to do...that's YOUR call.

What I WILL say is that I've found your rants, raves, comments, music and insight to be a help to me, as it likely is to many others.

We all need to say what's on our minds, if only JUST to see it or hear it.

You just keep calling them as YOU see them...the rest WILL take care of itself..trust me.

Stay safe, Boss!

Dear Moe,
I frequently come by to check your blog, I don't know that this makes any difference to you. But you do get well-wishers here, I'm guessing they outnumber the trolls.

It's hard to know what to say. I do think you/everyone needs an outlet. You're a good writer so I think writing makes a good outlet for you. But not if you can't write what you want.

I have a private blog that I journal on. Then I can write whatever I want and it's just for me. Maybe that, or a closed community blog. That would take a little time to set up, as you have to send invitations, but after that it wouldn't be any different.

If you go, I shall miss you much. But it has to work for you.

You're a good guy and deserve to be happy.

Try a closed community blog.

I enjoy reading your blog and I gain a huge insight into what the police have to go through on a daily basis.

I remember the incompetent officer you wrote about pretty well. You know, if your department needs warm bodies maybe I should apply. I don't see myself doing any worse that this jerk, and since my standard operating procedure dictates I keep my yap shut and my ears open in the hope of learning something, I at least have a small chance of doing better than total incompetence.

I've written on my blog how I feel about officers having to shut down their blogs for one reason or another. I'm seeing more and more blogs silenced.

It really is a shame. We could learn so much about what the police face but we're too busy being offended at the least little thing.

Ann pretty much said what I was thinking. Do what's best for you.

Either way, good luck to you.

(btw...please stick around)
