Failure
I had an encounter go South on me today. Tried to get a burglary suspect cuffed up and it went downhill from there. The unit I was backing up on another stop was about 200 feet away and didn't get involved until I had lost control and the suspect was already fleeing down the street. This is the same officer from January 29, 2010. Go ahead and take a look at that post, I'll wait.
The officer in dispatch said it sounded like one of us got murdered from the fight being transmitted intermittently. He called the next city(who was looking for the suspect) and they sent almost every unit they had to help. Too little, too late. It was just more cops to witness my failure and embarrassment for not getting the guy. At least I got them his name and description. They're familiar with him and will pick him up eventually.
Still, I've never had one get away like that before. How depressing.

What a jagoff. Even though the bad guy will be caught eventually, it would have never come to that if your supposed "backup" had half a sack and would have helped.
I similar problems, which I won't get into for fear of some of them reading you blog.
Stay safe out there.
I've mentioned before how incompetent your back-up is (as if you didn't already know that) and how I have this terrible fear that something really bad will go happen because of him.
It sucks things didn't go the way you wanted them to, because I know you're a damned fine officer - but someone really needs to beat the hell out this guy. He's going to get one of you all hurt - or worse - one of these days.
Be safe out there.

Oh, do I EVER recall that post (and that idiot).
Because the subject got away was certainly not YOUR fault.
It was the "backup's" fault for not...well...backing you the hell UP, right?
I'm sure you have more brothers/sisters in blue ON your side, anyway.
As for this "other" officer, if he doesn't want to engage a situation, there MUST be plenty of DESKS available for him to "police" instead, because he's sure not helping out ON the damn streets.
But that's just *my* opinion.
You stay safe out there.
Damn, your back up sucks ass !
What this officer who failed to assist you needs to understand is that the scumbag who got away is going to now know that if he resists an arrest he DOES have a chance of getting away. This puts any officer who encounters him in the future at risk.
As an officer you do everything in your power to control a situation, but no individual officer is Judge Dred, Robocop, or John McClane. No officer can or should be expected to handle every call on their own or with such pathetic "backup". The suspect who got away now presents a hazard not just to you an officers in your department but to any future officer he might encounter.
Failures in teamwork like this are what allow lesser criminals think that can become cop killers. This may have been an embarrassment for you, but if it becomes a tragedy for the next officer's family the guilt better weigh heavily on this sorry excuse for a guardian of the public's mind.
I just can't understand WHY they won't fire him. He's obviously not officer material, and as Anonymous has mentioned, and as I have so many times worried with him as your backup, he's going to get someone killed.
PLEASE tell me there's something that can be done about this "so called officer". I know your chief doesn't give a shit, but I can sure bet you and your fellow officers do care.
Can't you go above the chief's head?
This guy is a hazzard and I don't ever want to hear that something terrible happened to you, especially because of him.
Be safe out there, Moe. There are a lot of people that care about you.
Dear Moe,
Like Bob, I remember that post vividly. And like everyone here, I am concerned for your safety.
Stay alert, Moe, and
I'm always glad when you post.
Ann T.
Why do I feel like here are more and more of these out there?
